Granny squares finished top

Does anyone else find it tricky to photograph quilts?

This is it on the floor. I think it looks lack lustre.
Out on the washing line it was too blustery.
And my washing line is some what low. This is great to hang up washing as you don't have to overstretch but not so good if your finished quilt top is 2.1m long.
Any way to cut a long story short I have finished the granny squares quilt top. I need to find a suitable back. I think I'll piece it from the stash. After all this is meant to be an exercise in de-cluttering.

The owl and the Pussy cat went to sea

Oops I don't have a pattern for a cat, will a bunny do?
Just a bit of fun today playing with fleece scraps with the daughters. The owl was made using a tutorial from Toad's Treasures and the Bunny is from a Betz White tutorial. Of course one of the daughters wants a cat now. Well I guess I'll be trawling the internet for a suitable pattern.

Granny Squares - progress report.

Now that midsummer's day has been the rain has returned here. But at least it's intermittent. I have added sashing to my granny squares.
Now I could claim that the cornerstones were a design decision but that's not entirely true. Long sashing worries me. What if it's not straight? So I went short also this way some more scrappy squares could be used up - result. Now I need to decide if it will be long enough like this or do I need to add another row.
Also should I add a plain white border first and then add a border of little squares. It would use up more  scraps which would be a good thing...

Work in Progress Wednesday.

I thought I would share today, so I am linking to Freshly Pieced WIP Wednesday. I understand that it's good for the soul sometimes to come clean with what still needs to be finished. I guess Housework doesn't count because somehow that just goes on forever...

This is a new work in progress I have recently started. Well I was so exited to get my AccuQuilt (Did mention husband and parents got one for me? Are you bored yet with me mentioning this in every blog?) I had to start cutting into scrap mountain. This is what I have produced so far. I am quite pleased with it.

Now to come clean about some other projects: I have two other quilt tops I am working on. I have no up to date pictures.

1: Monochrome quilt for my parents. I have made a another 6 or seven blocks for this quilt but I am only about half way. I have to be honest I don't love it. I like colour. My father however wants a "manly" quilt and black and white goes with their black metal bed frame. I tried to point out that white with the three now rather large puppies (they are 11 years old and the other two are almost 8 years old) is not a good choice. I will finish it in time for his birthday. That's my goal.

2: Hexagon quilt a.k.a. "poolside quilt"   This was always going to be a long term project. It's stalled a bit lately as the girls' swimming teacher has gone back to college. On the one had that is a good thing,
on the other the swim school are being useless at helping to find a new teacher.

I am not sure wether to count baby kaleidoscope quilt. I mean the top is finished...

Actually this list doesn't look too bad. Thankfully this is not a list of things I should be doing or have said I will make. That would be much longer.

Kaleidoscope baby quilt (top)

Last week my youngest daughter was ill. Nothing too bad but bad enough to be of school. Also my internet was down. I found 12 pre cut 9.5 inch pieces of paper. I have been meaning to have a go at a String quilt for ages, hence the pre cut paper.
Daughter and I chose the colours and I then made it. Two day from start to finish. You have got to love baby quilts. The triangle border is made using my new AccuQuilt (it came with a die for 2.5 inch squares, 2.5 inch half squares and 4.5 inch square.)

I posted the same picture on Facebook and one of my friends said it reminded her of Kaleidoscope, so now it's called "kaleidoscope quilt". I think I have read somewhere else that someone called their string quilt a kaleidoscope quilt. I can't remember where though. Sorry for plagiarism, if I have used an existing name.

Now I just have to get some wadding. I have a large enough piece of "scrap" to use as the back. Technically I have enough wadding as well but it's 100% cotton and I thought that might not be 100% child friendly.

Project reduce scrap mountain  has officially started :-)

Happy birthday to me

It was my birthday a little while ago. I would have shared earlier but the internet was broken. Look what Hubby and parents bought me. I LOVE IT.

The plan is to use it to get rid of scrap mountain. So far so good.

Internet woes

I am sorry to say that the internet connection here is not as it should be. In fact it's pants. Has been since Wednesday. I have some great new projects I started and a lush birthday present but I can't show any of them off because of TalkTalk, our internet provider, letting us down.

Fingers crossed the internet will be back soon.

Another Dress.

I made a dress for Daughter 2. She did NOT want to be on the photo for that stupid blog.
She did however want me to take pictures of her and the cat. He is the most tolerant animal I have ever met. Maybe because he had a rough start in life and Husband and I rescued him. Cat was in sorry state when we got him and we did once or twice come close to giving up on him. So glad we didn't.
He has been with us for 11 years now and after the initial hiccups he has been the healthiest cat I have ever known.
As you can see he set of the new dress perfectly.

Dress is made from a remnant from my local haberdashery using Simplicity pattern 3902

No animals or children were hurt during the production of this blog.

I have linked up to Lilly's quilts for the small blog meet and I tried to add the button. I am failing in a spectacular way. I will try again tomorrow. :-)
