Nothing left.

 Mr Frederica sometimes worries that I buy too much fabric. He is worried, or so he claims, that our house does not have the structural integrity to take the weight of all the fabric. He was therefore very pleased that I have used up the entire 50cm of this pretty flowery print.

Technically it hasn't left the house and the weight issue therefore is not gone but he hasn't worked that out yet. Please don't enlighten him.

As mentioned previously Daughters 1 and 2 are now at a new school. At this new school there are outdoor shoes and indoor shoes. The outdoor shoes need a shoe bag. Daughter 1 told me this on Thursday, so I had quite a lot of notice. Daughter 1 made the felt flower for me to pretty up her bag. (on the accuquilt) 

Daughter 2 however forgot that she too needs a shoe bag. She only told me when I was half way through making this bag. Guess what I'll be doing tonight. 

The remaining meadow print fabric was used to make this little cushion. Daughter 1 did the cross stitch and used the sewing machine to sew it together. With my help. I am not letting her lose on my Pfaff without supervision. Although I didn't supervise her closely enough. She managed to drop the feed dogs and found sewing rather tricky. After making the acquaintance of the un-picker and a lengthy sermon on why you don't press buttons without may say so, the cushion was completed.
She is very proud of her work and so am I. She has poor eyesight and not stereo vision; as a result she is rather clumsy. I hope this cushion gives her more confidence to tackle other crafty projects.

I am off to choose fabrics from the stash for daughter 2. Have a good rest of Sunday.

Red brick

You may remember the series of "brick wall" quilts I made early on in 2012. Daughter 1 has the "red brick wall" quilt. I was having a bit of a tidy up to find more scraps for the goth quilt when I came across the left overs of "red brick wall".

"Oh look Mummy my fabrics. Can I have a cushion to match my quilt please?"  Well I got sucked into making her a cushion. The scraps were quite small, so here is a red brick granny square cushion.

Might need a slightly larger cushion pad. Corners don't seem very filled. But not a bad result for a morning's work. 

Pink cushion finished.

 I love cushions. They are so fast and simple to do. The tulips are from Timeless treasures and so is the pale pink with white flowers.

The back of the cushion with percale stripes and a fun pink print. Just because it was a way to get more pink and the girl who will get this LOVES pink.

I know it will have been difficult to spot, what with it being invisible, but do you like my (almost) invisible zip?

Stock take

 I did a stock take yesterday. I was trying to work out how much I would hve to take to the craft fair. yesterday's tally was 4 tote bags,

 4 small quilts,

one cushion and

 21 purses of different styles and sizes.

Not enough clearly for a two day fair. I phoned friend Anna. She told me to relax she has things to sell too and we have till the 13th to make things. As in remember this is a two people venture.

Not withstanding the reassuring words of my friend I do still worry. However my mother will come to rescue. Her hobby is making necklaces and bracelets. When she heard about Anna and my plan she offered to let us sell her necklaces. She has too many to wear and even giving them to daughter and daughter in law and granddaughters she has too many.

So this week I will be finishing the Stripes quilt and making more tote bags and cushions.

Fingers crossed.

Queen Jubilee

 It's the Queen's Diamond Jubilee soon. My friends will be celebrating this more than I will; after all she is only my Queen half of the time. The other half of the time is the Dutch queen and orange is just so much more fun :-) . Friend E. really liked my other Union Flag cushion and asked for one for the herself. She is more of a pink sort of girl.

And boy the back of her cushion is pink! I used the free downloadable pattern by Freedom Fabrics to make the cushion.

The fabrics are all leftovers from previous projects. The pink stripes and checks are percale cotton bed linen. The blue is very old I think bought in the late 80's. The back is again old sheeting.

Union flag cushion - finished

 I finished the Union flag cushion for my friend. I used the free pattern from Freedom Fabrics. It's not the easiest pattern to follow. I used foundation paper piecing to get the rectangles of the flag right. I still need to make a second cushion. I will try to make pictures of the process for the next cushion

 I used some Liberty lawn from my stash for the back of the cushion. I can't think of anything much more British than Liberty. I Love their Regent Street shop.

Now if only I had remembered to sew the tag in the right way up.

Cushion cover

I have decided to do something about my guilty conscience. I have decided to turn some (or all) of my orphan patchwork blocks into cushion covers.



This is my first attempt. The colours are really not me. However they are SO seven year old daughter. Thank you Zipit for having the right colour zips. They came in a week all the way from the US.

Please don't judge me too harshly on how I inserted the zip. I think I need to find a good tutorial on how to insert zips into cushions. It turns out that you can't really do the same thing as you do for dresses. Ooops.



Also I think I may need to pad out the cushion a bit with some left over wadding. We'll see what the daughter thinks of it.

On a happy note I have posted the quilts to the Aussie cousins. The cost was bearable. In fact if I hadn't chosen the signed for option it would have been quite a good price.

I had better make a cushion for the eight year old daughter now.
